The Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT is a simple drug-free solution for releasing stress. It involves stimulating certain acupuncture meridians by tapping on them with the fingertips to help relieve both emotional and physical stress. This dual action stems from the discovery that physical ailments often seem to have an underlying emotional concern. In fact, studies show that DNA damage is induced by psychological stress.

It’s no coincidence that the word emotions can be split into “e/motions” or “energy in motion.” If energy is blocked anywhere in the body, it can create an imbalance and have a dramatically negative effect on how your body reacts.

Afflictions including the common cold, headaches, back pain, and other physical discomforts have been released with EFT. Once you have seen how EFT clears the emotional debris, you will notice physical discomforts start to fade.

Why and how EFT works:

1) Anxiety or stress creates definite changes in brain activity – both electrical and chemical.

2) Tapping and stimulating acupuncture points sends signals to various parts of the brain – especially the limbic system, or the emotional part of the brain.

3) A statement is spoken and repeated about a past or present stressful situation as the acupuncture points are stimulated. This treatment alters and changes the electrical pathway and releases the energetic connection and hold that it has on the body emotionally.

Energy flows through the breasts

According to Gary Craig, the modern day developer of EFT, “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”

Two meridians that run through the breast are the spleen meridian and the stomach meridian. When the energy in these meridians is impeded, the associated emotions are:

  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Criticism
  • Rejection
  • Anxiety
  • Disapproval
  • Worry
  • Disappointment
  • Hopelessness

It is most important to take the time to sit and think about your emotional wounds. It doesn’t matter when they occurred in your lifetime. Only when you can name the emotion, will you be able to tap and release it with EFT. You will be able to feel the release and freedom it brings. Releasing stress, even if it is subconscious stress, is a BIG part of your healing!
